The renovation of an apartment in a former diplomatic residential complex in Sofia draws on the Brutalist character of the original architecture. The concept centres on exposing and revealing the existing concrete structure, establishing a direct dialogue between the interior and exterior while preserving the building's authentic material identity.
By integrating the kitchen with the living area, the layout creates an open, fluid space filled with natural light from three sides. The raw character of exposed concrete is balanced by subtle textures, glass-block partitions, and the warm tones of timber and furnishings. The result is a contemporary, materially restrained interior that respects the original architecture while providing the comfort and functionality of modern urban living.
